Hey Paul!

Right. Pascal and I differ slightly as to what a minimalistic Linux system
should be. I'd argue that ttylinux has surpassed it's original intention that
he had in mind for it, nevermind just me. In fact his later imposed limit was
to fit the entire root filesystem onto a floppy which it still does despite him
adding packages found on a more "full functioned" distribution as opposed to a
simple router type distribution which is usually the target of minimalized
Linuxes. For instance bash.

Since I long ago decided that a minimalized system should be based on the
philosophy of 'mean and lean' and never decided on limiting myself to any
bootable media it has become far less limiting for me then it has for Pascal
and thus the introcuction of packages like microperl, arena, and other such
addons. What I've found is that I can easily up the ante of the base ttylinux
packages and produce a system that is capable of serving ALL my needs. Funny
thing about that is it still can fit onto a floppy if I rid myself of packages
I'll likely never use such a ppp, isdn-utils, dhcpcd and the such. However I
may need to add some of those to a router type system and it is nice to know
they work. To me it makes no difference about the floppy boot since no system
I build ever has a floppy drive. A 16M flashdisk is all I need for everything
thus far with moutable hotswappable media for all the rest. The 'mean and
lean' philosophy has worked out great for me.

Good thing everyone caters to that crowd eh? They'd be lost otherwise. I see
no need to replicate much of that for myself and if I do then I'll take care of
it then.

As we speak I am working on development tools I want to use as a chrootable
partition from my bootable usb flash-ttylinux.x86_64 so that I can develop
packages for both 32-bit and 64-bit targets. I should even be able to compile
GUI, multimedia, whatever I decide, from it and it should be able to run on
whatever I target. I tried building a kernel optimized for a VIA C3 processor
and it booted and mounted a ttylinux.x86_32 initrd into 8M of ram and as far as
I can tell is as full featured, and then some, for that intended target. It
can do it ALL!!! MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

And they said I was mad.

xorg can wait. I am in no rush.

Life is good,
Maurice
