Ärende: ttylinux
================
JB> On or about: 11-25-06 10:50, Bob Klahn did engage James
JB> Bradley regarding, but not limited to: ttylinux

bk>>>> photodrive. Don't know if there is a linux driver.
 MK>>> speciality printers?
BK>>> It's a scanner that fits in a 5.25 drive slot. Old, but I like

JB>> SANE and XSANE makes scanning a snap, and just might
JB>> include your device. Maybe Google "Linux sane compatib" for
JB>> a more official word. (Note, I tend to truncate words to
 JB>> include more results.)

 BK>> Googled it. Nothing.

JB> Huh... I am not directly connected here. Maybe all capital,
JB> "SANE"??? I don't think it uses a funky spelling. "Scanner

Googgle should find it with all small letters. Ok, I googled for
my scanner, stormtech photo drive, not just SANE alone. Also,
don't forget, this was a very early scanner, among the first
affordable for home use by the general public, and never really
all that popular. The flat bed was more popular.

...

BK>> Indeed. I just had to redo a Dell without the original CD. At
BK>> work. Getting XP on was no problem, but nothing told me what the
BK>> video drivers were. Had to chat with a rep to get that.

JB> To quote Roy J. "lspci" or "cat /proc/pci" Oh, but you'll
JB> need a Linux CLI to use them. <G>

Like I said, company standard is XP. And I can't get them to
change. Hell, I seldom get to talk to IT.

BK>> At work company standard is Win XP. Can't get IT to change. I
BK>> find MSoft a pain, and I don't trust them. Hell, the main
BK>> advantage to the later versions is more stable. All they are
BK>> saying is their earlier versions weren't stable. How about
BK>> fixing them? I don't see any real operational advance since Win
BK>> 98. Well, dos really. Which is why I am looking into switching.

JB> Well, 98SE introduced USB support, and XP made it 32-bit
JB> code, as I've read it. I don't know how accurate the
JB> statement is, and it really doesn't affect me any more.
JB> With W2K, (What spun out of NT.) I still have troubles with
 JB> USB support.

Like I said, all they had to do was expand what they had. The
whole new OS was a marketing ploy, not an improvement. IMO.

JB>> "Come on in! How do you like your coffee?" <L>
 JB>> ... My other computer is a C-64.

BK>> So, you are saying you are an old 8 bitter. Coffee strong, cream
BK>> and sugar. I may be an 8 bitter at heart, but I don't like my
 BK>> coffee bitter.

JB> Comes to mind, the comedian act, "I like my coffee, like I
JB> like my women: Hot, black, and bitter."

I always heard it, Hot, Black and Sweet. My woman is sweet, very
sweet. I like her that way.

Way back in the transition to Win 95 a local sysop called me a
luddite. I find it hard to deny. Ok, I earn my living in
industrial automation, which is exactly what the original
luddites were against. So, I'm a Windows luddite. I don't see
much advantage there. But otherwise I'm infavor of progress, as
 long as it's real progress.

JB> If you find your coffee bitter without sugar, try adding
 JB> more grinds. <chuckle> I like mine tanned. <LOL>

 BK>> BOB KLAHN bob.klahn@sev.org http://home.toltbbs.com/bobklahn

BK>> ... The only real constant is change..."This too shall pass" is still

JB> Oh, Bob... I like you already!

 With good reason.

 JB> ... I think I can! I think I can! Therefore, I might be a
 JB> locomotive?

Could well be. Can you be 'trained'?
