I am sending to a BBS in the blind I have decided to learn all
there is to know about about permissions and and networking.

To this end Maurice I have discovered a few things.

Why can't I find /etc/init.d?

Well because I had not yet created it.
Nor chmoded it executable
Nor chown -c rooted it

As I go on to the now so obviously a simple task as configuring
and setting up sendmail I shall endeavor to return.

Several things have become stunningly clear.
How well the vi editor is suited to creating files
in /tmp which in turn build my network.

Seems one can work very fast indeed.
So fast it is spooky in fact.
Everything seems so seemless once again.

It appears once again I've chosen the correct path for this 
difficult time in my lifes' journey.

I no longer am in awe of Ron of the Tampa SCO 
Users Group who taught for some three weeks at At Abilities
of Florida.

I'd been amazed as his finger flew getting so much accomplished
in so short of a time.
Now I know it is because this OS is so integrated
and seemless in all of its various aspects.

Working off of a saved text file in /tmp
I'm merely taking sections of a script from the tutorial
provided at LFS and bit at a time following its' instructions
and executing the scripts as I go along :-)
Big fun now<g>

I've yet another path to fidonet but as I do not wish
to have to reboot I have decided to setup a cfg for 
lynx to telnet first so I can once again operate via
QWK packet downloading.

I put that Knoppix 4.0 CD in a box and in a box it shall
remain.
Better to create the right tool on hte fly than use
some lamer poser program right Maurice?

Wish me luck Maurice as I think I may need none ;-)

Addendum:
As I am sending in the blind and I feel I must trust and have faith that
a Windows based operating system is as full of security 
holes as to behave as a sieve.

My have I not been ignorant as to why this /tmp directory
exists in the first place.

With you or without your help and assistance I feel
confident this incredibly simple and secure OS
will perform to my every satisfaction and desire.

Hard to believe such a short time ago I found this environment
most difficult.

Thank you again for pressuring me gently to Slackware.
A couple of small anecdotes from this morning.

1. unable to F-7 back to KDE from root after some
hours work at the command line I was shocked to find the system
locked up with reset failing to unlock it.
Well the KDE desktop can't be frozen if you never loaded it 
today can it<G>

2. Found myself frustrated and having great difficulty
with such simple gui applications as Mozilla Firebird
and Mozilla Mail.

Maurice what have you done to me?
