Hey Paul!

Me too except I am not as resistant to change if I see something of interest -
interest being something good ot that looks like it has potential towards
goodness.

And that is of current usabilty how?

Nothing could be that sick and if it were it is time to seriously thinking
about doing the right thing and put the machine out of it's misery. It is a
sign.

PR> Only a Knoppix CD for linux
PR> and that's way too much heavyweight overkill.

I've abandoned CDs after seeing a few bootable DVDs. Nothing of interest there
methinks.

 PR> I want more tools

PR> Know any equivalents to Norton Diagnostics & AMIDIAG for linux?

Nope. I use dd mostly for checking out disks and hope that whatever kernel I
boot can keep track of everything else. So far the strategy has worked
although every now and then the strategy can fail. I have yet to find a disk
that dd can't find bad blocks/sectors on even though other utilities can
completly miss the badness. dd is my friend and I have yet to find anything
better overall.

Me too but I am still not quite ready. One more anomaly to hopefully fix
before tackling something different. I am hopeful things will be okay sometime
next week and then we'll see. I am confident it'll happen.

 PR> LEAF uses "build-tool", "build-

Okay. Personally I am not a fan of robotization but do appreciate suggested
usages.

Sounds interesting.

PR> They use a 1680KB floppy they need so much

They can keep it. I've noticed simular stuff talking about flash disks
recently instead. It is about time!!! Man are they ever behind. ;-)

PR> directory entries. Here's what I found this morning:
 PR> Trinux
 PR> ld-2.1.3.so 79276
 PR> libc-2.1.3.so 1013224
 PR> LEAF
 PR> ld-uClibc-0.9.20.so 16028
 PR> lib-uClibc-0.9.20.so 233764

Big difference. I think I'll probably stick it out with glibc in spite of the
above as it often is worth the extra bytes. However I would like to check
uClibc out again and give it a fair shake. There are certain things I need to
have happen that most minimalized systems seldom, if ever, take care of. I am
not sure if uClibc can handle it but if it can then the idea just might be
worth pursuing.

As for boot floppies; I don't miss them whatsoever. I ain't going back that
far especially since they were crap right from the start.

Life is good,
Maurice
