Hey mark!

ml> yeah... but that doesn't negate the reality of the situation OB-)

Exactly. I am treated like the other two users of the node. No difference
except that I also happen to be the sysop of the node but my point (user) has
no
special powers then the other two points (users).

ml> you are a sysop... the nodelist says so ;)

Yes but that has nothing to do with the point. There I am an ordinary offline
user with no special treatment. It works just the way it is supposed to.

ml> nothing to "liken" it to... you state reality...

Then I am a user. That is the reality according to the node that will take
care of the rest of Fido for me, exactly like it does for the wireless dude
(Paul Westell, 1/153/401.3) and the internet user (Pascal Schmidt,
1:153/401.2).
They are treated exactly the same by the little 486 (Little Mikey's Brain BBS,
1:153/401) as I am (Maurice Kinal, 1:153/401.1). Therefore we are all points
with the exact same access to available services on 1:153/401, which according
to the nodelist I am sysop. In reality there is no real sysop, Fido or
otherwise, on that machine. It might look that way in the nodelist, and people
might get the impression that there is a crippled DOSsie BBS there, and they
would be totally wrong. :-)

Good for them. They'd be totally out of luck trying any of that here. The
wireless guy (Paul) and I have a better plan for a networked, terminal-based
BBS
which we're planning to test real soon. Once we're happy with it, and actually
ind it useful, then we'll worry about accessability but I doubt anyone will
request zmodem unless they are silly given the much better options available to
achieve the same ends.

MK>> What works for one, should work for all.

 ml> this is also true...

That is the goal.

ml> no doubt way up there in the frozen space <<GG>>

I doubt even there. I heard NASA is using kermit for inter-satellite
communication. No zmodem from my understanding.

ml> <<GG>> well, i haven't run in a pure DOS environment for more than a
ml> decade, myself... but i do use it all the time within the other
 ml> environments that i use...

No need here. What for? Anything DOS can do Linux can do infinetly better and
then some. DOS is definetly history.

ml> i had thought you were going that direction with that statement... it
ml> only makes sense... *nix is all based on terminals whereas DOS and
ml> other environments are not... quite different approaches...

And I plan to fully utilize what I have available to me at my fingertips. If
it happens to work with DOS terminal packages then great, but I have serious
doubts anyone will be sweating whether of not zmodem works.

Life is good,
Maurice
