Sounds like another plan.  Offhand I think you'd enjoy it.  You might want to
pencil in a looksee at the ImageMagick perl module.  I looked at it awhile back
and used it with mplayer and the xmga driver.  I thought it was better then
most apps I've seen along that line.  I definetly thought it was better then
the gtk idea that they married themselves to.

I've seen that.  The opportunity has never presented itself to check it out for
myself.

You know that right answer.  You're just being stubborn is all.  Mind you
stubborness isn't always a bad thing.  Anyhow you know the right answer no
matter what.

Ah!  Yeah that could be a problem.  They might learn something and realize they
are wasting their time trying to outdo your own gov't in the terrorizing
business.  Can't have that happen!!!  ;-)

That makes sense.  Have you tried any of the new fangled video capture cards
for that instead?  That might be a better way to go with your setup as is. 
With a pvr pci card I noticed a dramatic decrease in cpu usage and tried wiring
in (composite inputs) a regular DVD player and VHS vcr with excellent results. 
For slower cpu's I think that is a better solution then going out and buying a
new system instead just for that reason alone.  Definetly somme good values out
there along this line.  I tried a WinTV 150 PVR and was impressed with the
results although I had to build extra modules with firmware :::shudder::: to
make it work.  I may have a looksee again as to what's available and hopefully
there is something moderately priced that could work and doesn't require
additional hoop jumping for a change.  It could happen but I am not holding my
breath.  Still for your situation that might be the best idea.
