In every way.  Even the archive isn't Unixie whatsoever (zip
archive/compression) and the executables are highly questionable in every
respect.  Probably fine for DOS, and hence OS/2, but I have yet to see or hear
of anyone getting it to behave itself on any Unix system.  Also wrt ftp, that
functionality has been done to death on ALL Unixie systems so it really didn't
matter but I can see why DOS and OS/2 users would prefer IRex seeing as they
have always lacked in that department, other than OS/2 which I believe ncftp
was started on, but seems to have switched lately.

Possibly.  When was IRex last compiled?  Also speaking for myself, I'd much
rather chose what libs are the dependencies here and not some ported app.

How about able to function on any Unice, including Linux, perhaps especially.

Right.  DOS think (single app, user, etc) doesn't port that well to any
Unix-think system.  I have yet to see any Fido app that handles Unix-think that
well although some are better than others at multiuser.  Porting DOS apps to
Linux seldom, if ever, works.  Same with OS/2 apps although some are good such
as ncftp.  That is the exception.  Most ports to Linux are from BSD and might
even be greater in number than native Linux apps.  No?

Multieverything, especially multiuser, is one of the biggest differences.  DOS
is very singular in it's thinking and has never gotten good even at
multitasking nevermind multiuser.  That is why it has been regulated to running
simplistic, embedded things like cellphones where that isn't an issue ...
although lately I've been beginning to wonder about that given what some
cellphones are attemting to do these days.
