Jamie ..

If this is a modern P4 Intel equipped motherboard youu really don't likely want
to try this with OS/2 Warp4. Also, you don't really want to do this with
anything more than 512K of main memory either that way. There were/have been
huge changes in things including the OS/2 Kernel between Warp 4 and what is
known as the Merlin Convenience Pack or MCP. As well, that went through a total
revamp between MCP1 and MCP2 which even in that 'upgrade' went through some
really mandatory Fix Pack issues with what is known as Fix Pack 1 for MCP.

Then which has morphed upward to Fix Pack 5 for MCP officially.

Even Warp 4 really needs the Fix Pack 17 as I've seen this and I still have
Warp 4 systems running very stable, but with this last Fix Pack from IBM as
well. There are serious issues with the DHCP internet operations and file
handle corruption even with Fix Pack 17 that were only finally fixed by IBM
with a separate DCHP Fis Pack that has to have at least Fix Pack 16 to work
with it on Warp 4, for example.

As well, there is a complete different hard disk partitioning technique which
is totally different between Warp 4 and MCP, which only the MCP1 'installation'
operation, which you have to use as a complete over-installation plus migrate
the Desktop from your old Warp 4 to MCP has to be done.

Then when you go to MCP2 from MCP1, you have to do the whole Desktop migration
thing again. And there are significant pitfalls in this,Which can include
complete failures to get audio operations working, plus complete failures to get
Networking working if you really are not aware of what the techniques are to do
all this.

Even with Warp 4 in and of itself, there are serious issues with the Install
package which can bite you for later model CPU chips and so on. Yes, it is
possible to use Warp 4 on Pentieum P4 systems. But .. the install is an issue
because there were many OS/2 Kernel revisions which have to be accomodated to
even get there. And the installation CD-ROM doesn't even have the needed code
on it to work.

In my experience your would be *FAR* better office in looking at Ebay and
whatever to pick up a Merlin Convenience Pack Install package and forget about
going to Warp 4 unless you are going to try this on only a much older Intel
Pentium CPU box. Again with only 512MB of at installation time RAM on it as
well.

Frankly, if you can't find a used copy of MCP to use, in my opinion you would
be much better off to actually go forward with the eCs 1.4 available version
from Mensys, with the ability to upgrade to all the latest IBM as released
device drivers. You really need the version 2 Device Driver package, the MCP
latest FixPack, which unless you really know what you are doing and update Warp
4 to 32 Bit TCP can really bite you. You need the latest 8406 Peer Lan Fix
Pack, plus a host of other things and even the latest at least 104a OS/2 Kernel
to do all this.

--> Sleep well; OS/2's still awake! ;)
