================
In a message dated 01-27-09, Mike Luther said to Holger Granholm:

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your very interesting (as always) message.

ML>Just a thought here ..

HG> If you want to know, the computer I'm writing this on runs Warp4 FP12
HG>on an AMD 486DX2-80MHz CPU with 16 Mb RAM. So much for your theories!

ML>I/m curious as to why you haven't installed Fix Pack 15 over FP12 in
ML>this case?
ML>Pack 15 was not only very stable, but it also was/is publically
ML>available in more than just the floppy diskette version. It
ML>actually exists as a simple run-from-hard-drive version.

There are at least a couple of reasons. First, I never ignited to the
JFS file system. Second, I want to have my PC-DOS/Desqview system
available as a spare operating system in my BBS machine. JFS would
probably not work with a FAT file system which DOS requires.

Other than that I don't have anything against FP15.

ML>In particular, there are at least up to the level two Device Driver
ML>fixes that are publically available perfectly legally and free.

Yes, I have the XR_D021.ZIP and XR_D022.2DK Device driver FixPaks.
I also have the EXPARTW.TXT describing how to update the two
installation diskettes but also stating at the end that requirements
were that your harddisk(s) were larger than 7.8 Gb and already had FP15
installed. My (SCSI) boot disks are 1 Gb but will be updated to 2 Gb.

What I don't have are the WARPIU disks/files that you mentioned in a
message 2008.

ML>Even on my Fido BBS here which you can access or poll TelNet you can
ML>pick up FIXPACK15.ZIP which is in the IBMINFO file area. As well as
ML>DDVR02.ZIP which is that Device Driver package in the same file
ML>area. I think these are both also available from the Public FTP
ML>anonomous download area called IBMINFO if I recall correctly.

This is where I'm handicapped with only a DUN contact to my ISP.
Please tell me the size of the files so that I can decide if I can pick
up those updates/files.

What I really seem to need are modified install diskettes before the
CD starts up. I tried to use the originals on a machine with an AMD
K6-III 500 MHz machine with 192 Mb RAM but it failed at the diskette 2
stage, maybe because I had forgotten the max 64 Mb RAM rule.

Before continuing the MoBo failed with blown electrolytic(s). I will now
exchange all 1000 and 1500æF 6.3V units to 10V ditto. It is important to
me that I have at least 2 ISA slots for the modems since to my knowledge
there are no OS/2 drivers for V90/K56Flex PCI modems and I already have
such modems.

ML>.......... Which do require more than 16MB of RAM. Which I'd sure
ML>bet you really could benefit from at least up to 64MB or if at all
ML>possible 128MB of RAM on your system.

Yes certainly but this old MoBo runs applications (Netscape for one)
faster with 16 Mb than with 32 Mb because of the way OS/2 counts the
memory. I did increase the cache RAM from one to two 256 kb banks with
positive results.

ML>Thus as always, anything I can do to help the OS/2 crew within
ML>reason, even to Warp 4, is still here if I can help you!

Thank you Mike for the offer and the detailed letter. You do now know
the situation here.

BTW, my work machine that also runs Warp4 FP12 but with the HPFS file
system on bothe the boot and application partitions.

Then I have aquired a Thinkpad T23 type 2647 that I would like to
install Warp4 on but I don't know if the built-in modem is a Winmodem.
It does have ZoneAlarm and AntiVir installed but I'm still scared by
what can happen on the net. OS/2 seems to be safe.
