Several years ago after installing a new mobo, I started having strange 
problems like this with cwumsd.add, so I went back to the IBM version.

With /REMOVABLES:n, n must be 2 more than the number of removable drives
you ever intend to use. I have a SanDisk 12 in 1 Imagemate card reader, 
and to use all possible slots, n=14. I've also found that I have to wait
about 30-45 seconds for the card reader itself to be recognized whenever
I plug it in, unless it's plugged in before booting, and then wait 
another 30 seconds or so after inserting a card before refresh removable
media will find the card (CF, SD, etc.). Sometimes I have to take the 
card back out and insert it a second time before it's recognized. Other 
than these quirks, no problems. With USB sticks, I have to wait about 15
seconds before refresh removable media will find the stick.
