ALWAYS have a recent backup!  Any OS or computer can have a glitch.  I'm glad
you can regenerate your stuff.

I wouldn't let this episode sour you on using OS/2 for your personal use - just
consider it a learning experience.  How many years have you used OS/2 without a
problem?

I presume you've seen my discussions with Ed re Ubuntu, and how installing it
killed my master drive (which contains everything I use.)  DFSEE and Jan van
Wilk's help got my partition table back, but my data had all been scrambled.  I
tried to boot to my second eCS partition (Grub ruined the first one, but I had
cloned it to the second - I do that fairly regularly as another form of backup
of my boot partition), and I got what you got - chkdsk marking every file bad. 
Fortunately, before trying the install, I had done a full backup, so I
formatted every partition, then used my crash recovery disks to restore from
the backup.  When it was done, I prayed to the football gods, booted up, and
all was well again.  eCS 1.2 and everything else was back to the way it was
nine days before.  Whew!  I'm a loyal eCS-OS/2 user, but I do backups, because
I don't trust computers.  *adh*
