Hardcore Microsoftie: "Anybody purchasing ActiveX driven software should be
fired."

Staff: Back in December, we took a lot of heat for telling you how expert
Microsofties were fed up with Internet Explorer. One of the folks sited was
Vlad Mazek.

Like every other individual in our report, Mazek is no Windows hater. Fact is,
he's the leader of Orlando SBS IT Pro Association, an expert Exchange
Administrator, and pumps out Vladville, an often spirited blog focused on
Windows server administration.

So. We've completed Q1 2006. Tempers have cooled. Microsoft has rolled out
Internet Explorer 7 Beta Preview 2. Seems like a good time to see if Mazek's
softened:


   I have completely eliminated external use of Internet Explorer ...

   Is it irresponsible to run Internet Explorer outside of the few
   company-approved web sites or further restricting it to
   internal-use-only?

   In my opinion: yes. I'll take it a step further: Anybody purchasing
   ActiveX driven software should be fired, on the spot. IE and its
   associated technologies have at least in my heart long lost the
   thumbs up and purchasing decisions should go towards web services
   that require no client components to be running. This is where the
   customer loses, when he/she is required to download and "trust" the
   code. I am tired of trusting, tired of patching, tired of constantly
   having to compromise, evaluate, alpha, beta, CTP, GTM and otherwise
   personally waste my time on software that should be delivered with
   some defined standard of quality.

   I'm tired of people ready already. How about maintenance free for a
   change?


Whew! Mazek stresses that he hates every beta that installs something locally,
not just Microsft's.

Which reminds us... if you haven't tried our Mail Server Profiler Beta yet, you
oughta give it a shot. Hopefully, you'll gain some insights from an external
perspective that will help improve your email service. Seems a lot of network
managers are already using Mailer Server Profiler to see how other admins map
out their mail services.

Anyway, our beta writes nothing to your system, so it shouldn't draw too much
Vladfire. All we ask, is that you tell us what you like, what you dislike and
what you want.

On the other hand, if you need unvarnished advice on Microsoft Exchange
administration, you may want to check out Vladville. Just don't get him
excited....
