I'm looking for some software for our quality manager and his team, and thought
I'd ask here if anyone has any good ideas. We rent watercoolers and sell water
to those, and need to keep track of quality problems in the water and also in
the coolers, and currently it's done using a self-made Access application which
is going to have to go (nobody here to maintain and further develope it as I'm
leaving this company soon). Preferrably shrinkwrapped, so that there would be
as little maintenance as possible to keep up with.

The idea is to keep track of all problems, so it should be a database system
with a UI to easily enter information such as customer details, cooler details,
type of problem (classification), who noticed it and so on. Also, there are
specific steps that are taken for each problem; someone goes to the customer
and checks it out, then possibly someone else fixes the cooler (and the floor
if it's wooden, and everything else that may have been damaged), then someone
checks that everything is done, then we file it to the insurance company, yadda
yadda, the idea being that the steps should be taken always, and it would be
ideal if the software helped make sure that everything is done properly in the
right order.

Then we need to be able to run reports on the data: how many coolers of type X
had problems, and what kind of problems they were. What did they cost us during
last month in city Z, and how many of the problems were deemed not to be
because of the cooler but because the customer did something wrong, and so on.
Fairly basic stuff, I think.

We have roughly 1000 incidents a year which need to be recorded, and 5-10
people who need to be able to access the software so it doesn't need to be
"big". Would be cool if it had a web-interface, but a normal client-server is
ok. Best would be to have both, of course. Windows only, no need for other
platforms or mobile devices or anything like that.

I'm thinking that there should be apps like this, because surely many companies
who rent something, need to keep track of their stuff. Or are they all built
in-house? We don't even need it to be super-exactly-the-way-we-do-things,
because we'd have such a small group of people using it that we could fairly
easily adjust the way we work a bit.

Well, if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate any information!
