It's way less annoying than XP, what's his problem?

Nothing changed here.

I forget what I did but I shut it up. It's not bothered me since the first
week. In fact nothing has nagged me or pestered me in any way. It just takes a
little work to shut off the annoying features but at least it's possible to
shut them off.

So far, I'd rank it more secure than either W2K or XP as long as you don't
count giving microsoft absolute power over the computer a risk.

Oh and XP didn't do this over W2K? Come on, it didn't bother you last time
what's the problem with a bit of change now?

Yeah, but with the exception of one extra click on "classic control panel"
that's not an issue. Is it really that hard to click one extra time?

So turn the indexing off.

Well obviously you need an @nls.net address. <g>

Hmmm.. I hadn't noticed since I have Word 2007 on this machine but I would
guess that could be a pita. OK one valid complaint so far.

How's the speech in XP?

That's funny, I use neither. Maxthon and Media player classic here.

Windows 2000 did this as well, didn't XP?

My thinkpad has no problem with shutdown, power management works perfectly.

Thinkpad came with XP and I did an upgrade, got warned about a few things that
were installed on the thinkpad, trashed them, ran upgrade again, I said yes,
went to eat, came back and it was done.

> Many older boxes are too wimpy for Vista,

Many NT4 boxes couldn't run W2K, the move to XP was minor so you didn't see
this issue there but now you see it again. This is nothing new, MS has been
accused of creating the need for new Intel chips for years. Why do you think
they call it wintel?

Wait for SP1? Hell with W2K I waited for SP3..

What's wrong with a simple format?

More like Microsoft's swan song, the world cannot allow a single company to
have the power to shut down 95% of the worlds computers, that's just wrong.

Geo.
