That is a good suggestion, and I appreciate your trying to be helpful.  I might
make such a forum post at some point when I have more time.  After all I'm the
proud owner of a brand new and now unused Avast Pro license.  It would be nice
if that money wasn't a total waste.

The problem with posting is that I wasn't before and certainly aren't now in a
situation, time or otherwise, to test changes and play with things to see if
this or that or the other thing fixes the situation.

I don't have the luxury of running my main computer that generates income
without antivirus protection while I keep trying to test Avast and computer
setup changes.  I need working antivirus and working email every day.  So that
means install an antivirus that works and move on.  I don't have the luxury of
having a machine around that doesn't get used for work and income generation to
play with Avast Pro setups to try and get them to work.  Heck it might work on
a different machine (who knows), but I need antivirus on
*my* machine and I can't risk my main work computer getting hosed while I
play around with Avast.

So I really had no choice but to move on, and I've been really happy with NOD32
(knock wood) so far.  It definitely scans much faster for manual scans and its
realtime scanner impacts computer horsepower less than Avast did. They also
update their virus signatures so frequently that they have their autoupdate
check for new signatures once every hour.  Sometimes I get two updates in a
single day.  I thought Avast was pretty quick with their updates which came out
daily or every couple or so days at a minimum, but NOD32 updates more often
than Avast.  NOD32 also includes built-in spyware protection as part of its
database of virus infection prevention.  So it scans for, manual and/or
realtime, not just for virii but also for spyware and trojan stuff.
