The goal was clear. Today macrovision protected content is off =
limits. This content is restricted today. This agreement makes it =
available.
Is there free software that supports macrovision encoded content? =
Legally?
BTW, your paranoia is showing again.

You're right my apologies, my clipping was from the reg article. but I =
don't see how it differs from the macrovision announcement in it's = subject
matter. It's clear from either that the goal of the BF = supporters is not to
restrict digitally perfect recordings, it's to = restrict the same vhs quality
recordings we've been making since they = lost the last round of court fights
over this. They want to eliminate = the analog path.
Microsoft is now working to make analog recordings restricted by the =
broadcast flag which the BF was never supposed to affect. The BF is a =
government attempt to get content moved to HD so they can reclaim the SD =
spectrum, it doesn't exist in the SD world because the content is = already
available there so there is no need. Of course that's now how = the
entertainment overseers see it, they believe it's their property and = that
recording off the air programming is theft even though the courts = have said
otherwise.
You don't get it Rich, when people find out the expensive windows =
software they use can't even do what a free OS can do they are going to = leave
the platform in droves. What do you think it was that killed the = apple ][
platform and moved so many people to the PC world, you think it = was IBM's
reputation that moved the gamers and home users years before = the software
library caught up with what was available on the ][?
The ][ had copy protection being used in lots of the most popular =
software packages, the PC didn't. There were no nibble counts, no track =
arching, no shuffle tracks, none of that nonsense on the PC. You had a = disk
you could make a copy of it.
People will use the system that works best for them, that means the =
system that allowed them to do what they want to do. If they want to = record
the superbowl and media center won't but some distro of linux = will, guess
what's gonna happen? The fact that it doesn't require a = hardware change is
going to make it possible for this to happen rather = faster than it did with
the ][.
Geo.

I provided a press release to Macrovision's press release =
earlier. You obviously never read it. Pay attention.
