Ooookkkaayyy..

Beans are basically classes with each field having a get<FieldName> &
set<FieldName> method rather than directly editing the field.

What this means in terms of a gui builder is that the builder can then query &
then "expose" these fields via the "GUI Builder". i.e. I can drop a bean onto a
screen & it can show me the properties etc of that bean & thus allow for
"visual composition". Basically the builder can rely on
introspection/reflection allied to the above design pattern or you have to
include a bean information class (more work & boring...)

i.e. in terms of drag & drop using beans makes the life of the gui builder much
easier. Coz it can just ask the class/bean "show me the get
& set methods" & then you can get a nice little panel which allows you
to type in default values etc.

i.e. it's nothing to do with swing per se but it is to do with the gui builders
& drag & drop etc.
