Actually, he did test it and it showed cylinder 4 was misfiring, but commented
that the engine is purring like a kitten and it seemed like a waste of money
to, for example, replace the plug wire, since you don't just replace one wire
anymore, you do the whole magilla for about $180.

So, we didn't "fix" anything and as he predicted (and you note) the light did
indeed come back on in about 500 miles I think it was, long after I passed
inspection. It won't be due again until 12/2006, but I thank you in advance for
the battery tip (I knew that would give the chip amnesia, but never figured it
would also turn out the light while it rethought its purpose in life as the son
of a flashing VCR clock<g>), I'll do that then and save the $60 (or probably
$70 by then).
