My preference is for two monitors instead of one twice as wide. A =
major reason is that I can maximize independently to each monitor. Two =
rotated displays might be OK but I think they may be too tall. I have a =
friend that uses a 2405 rotated and while I didn't play with it much my =
impression was that the top of the display was too far away. It = probably
would work better if the table was lower. It may be that I = would be fine
with these side by side. I've only used two SxS 4:3 ratio = displays and not
two 16:10s so I don't have a feel for what it is really = like.

Yes it does rotate, and my video card supports the rotation. But I do
prefer the horizontal width for some purposes, such as "putting aside" =
a
running program where I can watch it.
When I had the monitor in a vertical configuration, the screen space
utilization didn't seem as "comfortable" or as "intuitive". I'm sure
that some folk (text editors, for example) do prefer the vertical
orientation, however I couldn't use it efficiently without thinking
about it a lot.
