1.0 wouldn't work with my video card. Its just too old I guess. = Definitely
not ready for broadband either. Version 3.12 had very small = video windows
that weren't resizable. I think right now netmeeting is = looking better.
Lena and I got netmeeting working half way tonight. I could see and = hear
her, but she couldn't see and hear me. I had to open the = netmeeting ports on
my router before we got going, and I suspect that = the ports need to be opened
on the router on her end. She can't handle = that part, so further trying will
have to wait until I get home next = week.

Yes a reflector is a server, but it can be used to meet someone online =
then you can direct connect to them and drop the server. You might try =
version 1.0, it worked although it was geared for low res low bandwidth.
Let me know what you find out, it's been a while since I used cuseeme =
but I had loads of fun with it. The servers were a riot, folks from all = over
the world would be on them chatting away and looking at each other = (imagine
this group). Anyway one night I'm on a server and this guy pops = on who looks
exactly like me but obviously in a different house. I'm = wondering "what the
heck" when he types "hey bro.." so I said "hi, how's = mom?" and it was all
downhill from there. <g> Kind of event that can get = you hooked on a piece of
software.

I fired up netmeeting last night and checked it out. It will do =
direct it appears, but its display could be a bit better. I found a = site
last night where one could download CUSeeMe version 3.12, which = requires
either a serial number or times out after 15 minutes, (current = versions
require use of chat servers and won't do direct). The site = also had version
1.0 which was the free version from when Cornell owned = it. The CUSeeMe
interface seems better than netmeeting, just from = screenshot looks.
Isn't a reflector just another name for connecting through someone =
else's server and not directly to each other?
I'll probably end up trying both Netmeeting 3, which is free, and =
the two CUSeeMe versions. Will let you know. Thanks,
Gary

It's commercialware now. Netmeeting may be able to do it (see =
http://www.intel.com/pccamera/tellyourfriends_install.htm), I seem to =
remember an option for using it with a webcam and there are probably = other
software programs out there that can do it as well but most are = adware.
I used to use cuseeme all the time because of the option to use a =
reflector made it easy to go direct when the other side didn't know what = IP
address they were on. I had tried netmeeting but the bandwidth = requirements
were too high for dialup at that time.

Is CuSeeMe commercial or free software these days? Do you know =
if its possible to us NetMeeting to do this. I want to do it direct and = not
through a server or reflector.
