Ärende: Re: Sony CDs - No rip to Ipod from PC
=============================================
From: "Glenn Meadows" <gmeadow@comcast.net>

Yes, I believe part of this new approach, is to include DRM'd WMA on the disk
in a second session, along with the regular redbook stuff. They're restricting
the ability for the computer CD player to actually access the redbook session.
We accidently did that on a release last year, the people making the enhanced
CD forgot to "import" the first session TOC into the second session TOC.

When you make an "enhanced CD", one with audio at the front, and "data" at the
back, when you burn the first disk, that session has a flag that tells players
that can read the second session (CDROM DRIVES), to go read the second session
TOC, which is at the END of the audio portion. That second TOC is SUPPOSED to
have the audio session TOC as well as the DATA session TOC, so the CDROM knows
where to go to play the audio portion, as well as where the data is. Well,
these folks forGOT to do the import when they added the multi-media portion,
and it went to manufacturing that way. ALL the computer could see, was the
data portion, no way, no how, were we able to get a computer to access the
first session on the CD. It played just fine in a regular CD player though.
Even making an image copy of the disk, and burning a new one would not provide
access to the audio content. The biggest problem, is if it's a LONG CD,
there's not much space left for the WMA files to fit with any decent bitrate.
