Unwanted by consumers and OEMs.
Windows Vista home networking is an advance over Windows XP's. How =
much this helps you I can't tell.
Maybe your experience is different than mine. The issues I have seen =
with home networking are due to the conflict between security and ease = of
use. Do you have the firewall block file sharing or not? By default = it is
blocked. Do you want to allow remote access to your system using = local
accounts meaning that if someone guesses your password then can = access what
you can? By default remote access using a local account = gets the same access
as a guest. This leads to the next question. Do = you want to allow guest
access? By default it is not. What this boils = down to is that the
configuration is secure by default and some people = really don't want that.
I'm sure some people that complain fail to see = the irony.
I had no problems with any of those issues for myself or the people I =
helped. The one that frustrates me is that name resolution uses DNS = and/or
NetBIOS. I prefer to disable NetBIOS and do not want a home DNS = server.
What I want is LLMNR.

Unwanted? By Europe or Microsoft.
Seriously Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional Edition =
seem a bit much. With the increase in home networking MS should target = home
users with a release of Vista that makes networking less painless = than XP

There are five versions of Windows XP not counting the unwanted =
European only versions.

Bill, you have got to be kidding us all. The always-excellent =

Noise blog says that Microsoft has seven versions planned for its =
next=20
Windows release, Vista (the OS formerly known as Longhorn)...
* Windows Vista Starter Edition
* Windows Vista Home Basic Edition
* Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
* Windows Vista Professional Edition
* Windows Vista Small Business Edition
* Windows Vista Enterprise Edition
* Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
If this is indeed the final product lineup, I think MS is due for =

trouble. People have a hard enough time deciding if they need XP =

Professional as it is! And even power users won't know what the =

But we are talking about the same company that actually runs ad =

calling their customers dinosaurs for using outdated versions of =
