One of my tell-tales is the Product DeActivation feature of Windows.  So long
as that is there, I ain't upgrading.  Like you, I tend to use OS's well past
the lifetime that Microsoft would like to ascribe to them.

However, with Windows Product DeActivation, Microsoft's profit whims, not
hardware compatibility, limits the lifetime of the OS.
