Well I haven't tried the shredded wheat one yet, but I can tell you that prior
to trying some of Wal-Mart's house brand stuff I definitely agreed with you and
your sister.

After my wife practically forced me to try some of their house brand things, I
can tell you their Rice Chex is a duplicate of the original, except for the
price.  Their raisin bran is better and with more raisins than the original,
and again about 40% off the price of the original.  Their house brand cola
drinks are good (not as a good as my personal preference, but quite good none
the less), unlike almost all other generic brand cola's I've tried.  Same thing
is true for their house brand canned goods and several other things (you can't
tell a real difference in quality).  Their pies and baked goods are
substantially less than publix and other stores, and they are of the same or
even better quality.

It took me quite a while to get over the prejudice's against house brands that
I had rightly built up over the years, but if you try Wal-Mart's house brands
on say 10 different items, I'll guarantee you that more than half of them will
be so good quality wise that the savings will cause you to start buying their
house brand over the original for those items.  There will always be some
things you just don't think compare to the original, but it will be a minority
of the items.

Wal-Mart really helps keep inflation down.  I hate negotiating their parking
lot because of all the people going in and out, but once you're in the store
its worth the trip in savings.
