That's very likely true. Games are one thing that uses/needs all the cpu
possible, other is different compression stuff (mp3, divx etc.), but with
compression it's not really that important because if it takes a wee bit longer
then so what. Mostly it's got to do with memory usage. Even a simple image
manipulation app, say something like screensaver that just loads images and
fades them in and out as a slideshow, takes up some amount of memory. Double /
triple / quadruple / whateverweirdword-ple that by using incorrect (too large
"because it's easier to not have to worry about things" variables), and memory
usage goes up, up, up.

On the other hand, that's probably one reason why we need half a gig of memory
just to write email today...
