==================================
G'day, Marc.

ML> Gee, it's good to see that!

It most certainly is for me. :) Glad to see that things are working as you'd
expect it to.
I could see from my log-on that you are ftp'ing from a different portal than
what it used to be.

[--8<--]

PG>> p.s. Marc, if you're reading this, I hope all is well with you and

ML> Here's a snip of the e-mail I just sent off to Harvey:
ML> Hello Harvey!

[--8<--]

HP>> MARC, I hope this message finds you well. Hello to you and
HP>> anyone else who remembers me.

ML> Nobody here forgets, Harvey. You still play a part in the daily
ML> "operation" of FidoNet. What with all the programming you've done
ML> over the years... Need I say more?

I started out with Harvey's offline reader, then point software, though today
I use a different point package that suits me more, it's hard to forget someone
that made bbs'ing the enjoyable hobby that it is for me. For me, it even all
started out in Harvey's home town of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. :-)

Thanks Harv. ;-)

HP>> When you get a chance, please drop me an email

ML> Harvey, I have successfully moved to Meridian, Mississippi and taken

ML> domain and its gate at 396/3.

Much appreciated, though not surprised Marc. All in keeping step with the fine
work you've done thus far. Hope you like your new digs.

ML> My beloved city is in shambles.

I read often of the news that goes on down there. It's a shame how things have
been handled. I bet the streetcars will be greatly missed for awhile, as I
hear it could take about a million dollars to restore each one. Talk about
"desire". And what about all those cars that were flooded, as well. Buyer be
ware. As far as homes go, I'd be rather worried about the effects of
mildew/molds as a heath hazard, upon returning. Something to consider, if one
wishes to remain in the area. A major inspection/restoration would be in
order, and as a tenant I'd be rather suspicious about the quality of such
restorations.

I don't know about the health standards down there, but in Canada, a 1 square
metre patch of mold is a heath issue, and requires the services of a
professional to remove safely. Don't believe me, just google "molds" and click
on any link that leads to government health sites, in regards to molds, and
search for the safe handling of such.

ML> My house, though undamaged by the
ML> storm is of little use to me due to the downsizing of the company I
ML> worked for for the last 15.5 years. (But that's another long,
ML> agonising story.)

It's a shame about your job, Marc. It seems that loyalty is a one way street.
As for your house, I wouldn't be too sure about that. If it's been without
power, and subject to the elements for an extended period of time, there's
still the possibility that the insulation could be useless, or molds could have
started in the building structure. I gather that your house was on high
ground, so it did better than most.

ML> At any rate, I am now employed as a service
ML> engineer for Peavey Electronics Corp in the Crest Audio division. A

ewe... The makers of "Peavey Amps". Sounds like a good job opportunity.

ML> drastically different work environment, but none-the-less a good
ML> place

Didn't you use to fix speakers cones for the company you last worked. Seems
to me, you gave me some advice, at one time, about fixing 2 of my 12 inch
monsters.

ML> to work. I've been dealing with the company as an independent
ML> servicer since 1972; they are now the largest musical equipment
ML> manufacturer in the world
ML> with about 2,000 employees in the general
ML> area of Meridian and some 5 or 6 hundred more in the Chinese plant.

What a shameless plug, Marc. :-)

ML> Crest is the "high end" of the product line, not sold through music
ML> stores, but only through established commercial sound installation
ML> contractors. The line includes amplifiers up to 10kW. (!) Monstrous
ML> to work on at 80kg!

Oh, and you just go on and on... For shame! ;-)

ML> So, for the forseeable future, I am now a resident of Meridian
ML> Mississippi (a nice town) and I will be selling my house in New
ML> Orleans, hopefully in short order. I miss my home VERY much though.

Again, I hope you like your new digs. You seem to enjoy living in areas where
they write songs about such places, or has some other interesting fact linked
to it. ;-)

Are you a country and western fan and/or perhaps, old school rock n roll
trouper?

ML> This has been quite a cataclysm.

That pretty much says it all.

ML> I have missed hearing from you. I hope that you're doing okay! I
ML> imagine that you are still quite busy. And your family?

ewe... this sounds personal, so I'll steer clear of that one. :)

In closing, I wish you the very best of luck with your new life, Marc. I'm
sure you'll do well. As I've stated before, you're a real trouper, so hang in
there.

Regards,
