The first commercially successful ones.  There were more than 50 operating
refineries in the Cleveland area before the Civil War.

Big whoop.  So the Poles made kerosene first.  So what?  I never said anything
about who made kerosene first.  Or about lamps.  And the Drake well WAS the
first of its kind using a derrick rig, sectional piping and a rotating bit, and
mud slurry to force the drill debris up and out of the bore hole.
