Ärende: Durbin plays the Thug Card

In an attempt to muzzle the PAC that is holding his feet to the fire over his
recent remarks about US troops being Nazis, Senator Durbin is acting like some
kind of thug, sending out his "enforcer" to get them to back off.  


*ALERT* 

The U.S. Senator who smeared U.S. Troops with claims that they were 
barbaric torturers akin to "Nazis, Soviets with their Gulags, or some 
mad regime like Pol Pot or others" is now trying to silence Move 
America Forward [website: http://www.MoveAmericaForward.org ], a 
pro-military not-for-profit organization.

In keeping with his outrageous conduct, U.S. Senator Richard Durbin's 
office intimated to an Illinois newspaper that the IRS should shut 
down Move America Forward, telling the newspaper:

     "Have you ever seen that H&R Block commercial where 
      the guy leans in and says, 'I see an audit'?"

One of the grounds used to threaten impeachment of President Richard 
Nixon was that he politicized the IRS and tried to use IRS audits of 
his political enemies to shut them down or silence them.  That is 
precisely what Senator Durbin's office is doing now!  There is no 
place for that in American politics, and Senator Durbin must be held 
accountable. 

In another effort to shut down the voices of American military men 
and women who rely on Move America Forward to defend them, it looks 
like Durbin's office has also called the television stations in the 
state and pressured them not to run the television commercial calling 
him to task.  

Already, two television stations have buckled under his pressure:  
the ABC affiliate in Chicago (WLS TV 7) and the NBC affiliate in 
Chicago (WMAQ TV 5), are refusing to run the ad critical of Durbin.  
The CBS affiliate in Chicago has withstood Durbin's pressure, and 
Move America Forward has already aired the ad during their news 
broadcasts.

*CALL TO ACTION*

Senator Durbin will not intimidate us - and we will not stand silent 
when a U.S. Senator impugns our troops as torturers or butchers.  
After blistering criticism, Senator Durbin went to the Senate floor 
and set he was sorry that people were offended by what he said.  But, 
he DID NOT say he was sorry for his shameful comments, and he has 
since said he stands by his accusations against our troops. 

This is why it is so important that the American people, especially 
the people in Illinois, find out the truth about Senator Durbin.

We would like to continue our TV Ad campaign denouncing Senator 
Durbin's attack on our troops - and if possible we'd even like to 
step up the size of our ad buy so that more Americans see them.

We cannot do this without your help.  As a non-profit organization, 
our funding solely comes from individuals like you who contribute to 
our cause of supporting the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed 
Forces.

We will be running these TV Ads both in Illinois on the network 
affiliates (outside of the 2 in Chicago that Senator Durbin appears 
to have bullied) and on national cable news networks (Fox News, CNN, 
etc...).  An ad on an NBC affiliate in Illinois can cost anywhere 
from $150 to $5,000 for EACH TIME the ad is run.

On national cable news networks the cost for our ad to run JUST ONCE 
to a national audience ranges from $2,500 to $35,000.  And again, 
that's just ONE TIME for the ad to run.

We don't have special interest group funding, unlike Senator Durbin 
with his fat cat contributors.  We need your help.  If you can afford 
a more generous contribution - or if you know of a business or 
corporation that can afford a contribution of $2,500 or $5,000 or 
$10,000 or more, please help us raise the money we need to hold 
Senator Durbin's feet to the fire.

than 100 news websites today.  As mentioned, Senator Durbin's 
people have also called every television station in Illinois 
and tried to bully stations into not running Move America 
Forward's ad that defends our troops against Senator Durbin's 
allegations of torture and butchery.

It is our hope to respond to Senator Durbin's threats with 
defiance - by increasing the size and frequency of our

Let's keep this commercial on - not just in Illinois, but 
NATIONWIDE on cable news networks for at least two more weeks.  
We want every American to know what Senator Durbin did to our 
troops, and we want all Americans to step forward and pledge 
that we as a nation will always stand up for the men and women 
of our military who are fighting on the frontlines of the war 
against terrorism to keep our nation safe.

We need to raise at least $51,000 this week (and another 
$51,000 next week) to stay on the airwaves with this 
commercial.
