BS>Remember Richard Holbrooke, Tim?

TR> Sort of. He was some sort of obscure liberal democrat who had
TR> time in the state department or something. Didn't he write The
TR> Pentagon Papers, or something?

BS>Sort of Tim? Were you in a effing' coma back then? You are just another
BS>dishonest wingnut.

According to a bio on him I found just now, he graduated from Brown University
in 1962. In 1962 I was about 20 years old, had not as yet even voted in my
very first election, was busy working for a living and getting ready to get
married. Richard Holbrooke wasn't a name I'd even heard at that time, and I
didn't even know there was a university called `Brown'.

He supposedly went to work in the foreign service, and was sent to Vietnam,
serving for several years in various capacities having to do with that
country.

During that time, I was getting on with my life, Kennedy was shot, Johnson
became president and I had still never even heard the name `Richard
Holbrooke'.

In about 1966 I went into the Army (still without ever hearing the name
`Richard Holbrooke') went to Vietnam the following year, and spent half of the
year after that `also' in Vietnam (still, without ever having heard the name
`Richard Holbrooke').

In 1966, Holbrooke was assigned to the White House to work on some sort of
Vietnam staff for Lyndon Johnson. I was busy in the Army that year going
through Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, and planning for the
orders transfering me to a post in Germany (and `still' had never heard the
name `Richard Holbrooke').

Shortly after arriving in Germany, I recieved orders to go to Vietnam. My
transit back to the states, a quick 30 day leave, and departure from Oakland
took the majority of my time and attentin that year, and the name `Richard
Holbrooke' never came up on my radar screen. I had still never heard of him.

Sometime in one of the years I was in Vietnam, he wrote a book called `The
Pentagon Papers', and also served as some sort of assistant to a couple of
*under* secretaries of state, which is probably one real good reason why I
never heard of the guy. *Assistants* to `under' secretaries of state aren't
real `visible' people, especially to someone who's out of the country at the
time of his tenure.

At some point he became director of the Peace Corp in *Morocco* (of all
places), and wouldn't have been in `my' scope of interest whether I had ever
heard of him then or not (which I `still' hadn't). I wasn't real big on the
Peace Corp then `or' now.

Lets see.....he resigned from the Foreign Service and became a managing editor
of some obscure magazine called `Foreign Policy', a publication that is, no
doubt pretty popular in some government workers' circles, and which I would
not be surprised to learn was hand-delivered regularly right to `your' door,
but which I had never heard of till I just saw the name in Holbrooke's bio. It
certainly wasn't a magazine that was typically delivered to the neighbors, nor
was it ever visible on magazine tables in barber shops, pool halls, or any
doctors' office I've ever been in.

Holbrooke was an ambassador to Germany at one time (which I `also' didn't
know, as I care less about Germany unless German Troops start a `march toward
paris'........again), cared little of who was the ambassador of what, and
couldn't tell you the name of the person who is ambassador to Mexico right
now, although Mexico is less than twenty miles from where I'm sitting.

TR> I didn't even know he'd been nominated for it.

BS>Sure you didn't Tim... another effin' liar, what a surprise.

Its true, I didn't know. Not every single thing that happens in government
comes up on my radar screen. I recognized the name when you posted it
yesterday because of `The Pentagon Papers' from years back, but wasn't real
sure it was Holbrooke who wrote that. That was a guess on my part.

TR> The problem with your little barbed accusation here is,
TR> I'm not a republican.

BS>Sure Tim, sure. Question is why are you ashamed of it?

For many years I was a democrat. I voted for Lyndon Johnson when he stood for
election after finishing out Kennedy's term. But I did not vote for Hubert
Humphrey, I voted for Richard Nixon.

I also didn't vote for George McGovern, I voted for Richard Nixon again.

I voted for Jimmy Carter because I thought he was going to bring a little more
quality to our country, and I `couldn't' vote for Ford. He didn't have the
brains to hit a golf ball, let alone be president. Carter lost his re-election
because a lot of people were greatly disappointed in him. I didn't vote for
him the second time, I voted for Reagan.

I switched to the republican party because of Carter. I could not belong to
the same political party he was a member of.

And I voted for Reagan again the second time he ran, too.

And I also voted for G.H.W. Bush, and the second time he ran as well.

I dropped the republican party when such a large number of republican senators
came out to the camera during the Senate trial for the impeached Clinton, said
one thing to the camera for the folks back home, then voted altogether
different to what they'd said. I could no longer be a republican either.

I'm a registered independent. I have no party affiliation. No, if
*independent* has a "party", I do not belong to it. I am non-affiliated. I
vote for who I think is going to be best for America. Their party affiliation
is immaterial to me. Gore wasn't the right person in 2000, Kerry wasn't the
right person in 2004.

Sorry if that punctures your little hate balloon on you. But thats tough.

If you ever exxpect to see your democrats get into a position of power in this
country again, you're going to have to stop all this attack-dog nonsense, and
start trying to make constructive suggestions, come up with some sensible
ideas, and try to work with the majority party and its president.
