That's exactly right.  As more and more details come out, it becomes clearer
and clearer that they simply didn't do their jobs.  Did you hear that
spit-spewing rant that the mayor of NO gave out, accusing Bush of everything
but child molesting - and laced with four letter words.

What mystifies me is that last year they had a major disaster drill for just
this sort of thing, and identified a bunch of things that needed to be fixed,
but overall was pretty effective.  Yet, now, its as if they were all asleep at
the switch.  I've heard people yelling about the failure of the feds to get
rolling soon enough, but they were at least as fast if not faster than the
locals in getting underway.  The state didn't even ask for NG troops from other
areas until late Wednesday.  By then, if you allow for the logistics of
startup, it was too late to keep things under control.

Couple all that with decades of nothing but elitist lip service and false
promises to the poor people there and it would've been more humane to just drop
an H-bomb on New Orleans.
