Hello All!

FEMA's reaction was too slow for the current tragedy and its funding is called
into question. The man in the WH even agree's with those of you whom have been
bitching.

Exactly what assets can relief agencies stockpile, where do they stockpile them
and how much do they stockpile?

The blame game and other tangible questions can be answered later, there are
plenty of people to be blamed, from the Mayors house to the whitehouse and
Capitol Hill. Playing the blame game CHANGES NOTHING for the present! I am sure
the congress critters will hold hearings and perhaps they will legislate
changes for FEMA and the US Army Corp of Engineers to make both better!

Those of you whom want to play the blame game, we can start with the Mayor and
work our way up!

The Hurricane was a CAT4, the levee system protecting that city was designed
for CAT3 and lower, it is claimed that budget money was diverted away from New
Orleans towards other public works projects in 2003. The last Hurricane to hit
the city directly was Hurricane Betsy a CAT3, most other hurricanes hit
somewhere else as opposed to directly or were over-glorified thunderstorms. The
pumping stations not under Federal control or governance are old as sin!

I want the Bush-haters in here to unequivilocally state that had the money been
there in 2003 for the US Army Corps of Engineers to work on that cities levee
system that:

* That any revisions would have brought them up to strength to withstand a CAT
4 or 5 onslaught.

* That those revisions would have been completed in time to have stopped this
event?

In 1993, the US Army Corps of Engineers was caught with its pants down when it
was discovered that the levee system in place was not quite good enough to
stave off the flooding that took place in Iowa and Missouri.

On 09/11/2001, all of us were caught with our pants down when a unfathomable
attack occurred.

This is simply a pattern of the inability to predict the future or factor in
the odds.

It was easy to ignore the warnings about the New Orleans levee's, the city by
and large dodged all the prior bullets since the 1965 encounter despite the
fact that the risk was well known and well known for decades!

Its called complacency people and it happens all the time and is not just a GOP
versus Democrat thing!

We have 2 large western cities sitting in Earthquake zones and which arent
tsunami proof.

People in California still build houses on the sides of hills to become
mudslide fodder or they live in suburbs with no buffer between them and
brushlands to become fuel for wildfires.

People still live in trailer homes in tornado prone areas.

People still develop and live on the Southeastern and gulf coastlines, prone to
hurricane strikes.

People still drink and drive..

Yet all of the above has historical facts and events to say "dont do it".

The blame game aint helping anyone at this point and there are plenty of people
to share this blame.
