I was registered as an independent until 2004.

I voted for Goldwater, absentee ballot from boondocks Alaska.

Since I left home to enter Uncle's Air Force when I was 18, I never voted
in those elections.  The voting age was 21 back then as well.

-> I had to vote for Nixon in 1968. And again in 1972. 

Me, too.

-> The alternatives were Hubert Humphrey and George Mcgovern, 
-> respectively. Both of whom were pretty much clueless.

Humphrey was a good man and an idealist, I thought we needed a SOB at the
time, hence my vote for Nixon.

McGovern was a brave man and a patriot.  A bomber pilot over Europe in WW2
proved he had the courage to do what needed to be done, yet I couldn't vote
for him, given his pacifist beliefs.  Don't get me wrong, if anyone had a
right to be a pacifist, McGovern did but at that point in our history, I
couldn't see constantly turning the other cheek as a viable national
foriegn policy.

-> I voted for Jimmy Carter.....how anyone could have 
-> voted for Gerald Ford is a mystery.

Indeed.  Ford, also a good man, a very good man who, unfortunately was out
of his depth in the White House.

-> that I was not really a democrat at all. In fact, Jimmy

-> the democrat candidates I had been voting for, and I 
-> realized they were mostly bullshit. I dropped my affiliation 
-> with the democrat party and re-registered
-> republican.

Jimmy Carter's biggest problem is that by never learning to delegate
authority, he micromanaged everything which led to virtually nothing
getting accomplished.

I voted for Reagan twice, the second time knowing that unlike Carter who
had to have his hands on everything, he never wanted to have his hands on
anything. His was the first of what I call, "A Sgt. Schultz" Presidency.

In 1992 I voted for Ross even though I knew he wouldn't carry the day.  I
took a break in 1996 and did not vote for President/VP but I held my nose
and voted Gore in 2000 then did the same in 2004 voting for Kerry.

And further away from the dream the Founders put forth in Philadelphia in
1787.

I would run the politicians who would be kings out first, then tackle the
problem of illegals.  Of course, if businesses and people didn't hire
illegals then it is unlikely they would come here in the numbers they do. 
Of course, then we would have great difficulty providing produce, housing,
etc., sectors where many illegals find work.

->I might be too old to take part in the shooting.

I suspect that while I'm not too old yet and look pretty good for my age
(on the outside at least), the inside is another story.  As long as I have
a good supply of my meds, most importantly my inhalers (COPD is a bitch), I
would take part old or not.
 
The funny part is that those to whom I refer as the 5-H Bush Bootlicker
Brigade here would be on the other side, unfortunately.  Such is how badly
they have lost their way.
