Correction Mr Cassell, the New Orleans Levee system was NOT capable of
CAT3 hurricanes.  As demonstrated by Hurricane Betsy in 1965, Hurricane
Katrina in 2005, and Hurricane Rita in 2005.

Apparently Bush is not a worrier, preferring to play with his dogs at
his ranch in Texas while people DIED in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.

And yet Bush chose to do NOTHING.  Even though he had ample time to
do SOMETHING.  After all, Bush had been in office for almost five years.

The 17th Street Industrial Canal levee was built in the late 1980s.

And yet Bush chose to do NOTHING!

LBJ visited New Orleans the day after Hurricane Betsy hit the city.
GWB waited a week after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans before even
getting help to those who were DYING.

IOW, because Bush is an incompetent fool, Bush chose to do NOTHING!

Bush the Elder was president when the 17th Street Industrial Canal
levee was built.

And yet Bush the Awful chose to do NOTHING!

Those are federal levees, Mr Cassell.  As such, it is the responsibility
of the federal government to see that those levees are functional, and
that upgrades are made to that leveee system.  And yet Bush chose to do
NOTHING!

Nah.  The total incompetence of the Bush administration.  Not just Bush.

Had Bush ordered the Army Corpse of Engineers to close MRGO and fill
it in with sediment, the problem would have been solved.  At very little
cost to taxpayers.  Of course, it would also have helped if Bush had
granted the Army Corpse of Engineers the funding it needed to repair
the existing levees.

The channel known as MRGO was constructed beginning in 1963, and
completed in 1967.  Hurricane Betsy hit the city of New Orleans in
1965, flooding many parts of the city and killing 79 people.  Ever
since that time, experts have clamored that MRGO be shut down and
filled in with sediment.

The 17th Street Industrial Canal levee only exacerbated the problem.
That is why Hurricane Katrina was much more destructive to the city
of New Orleans than was Hurricane Betsy.

On August 25, 2005, Bush was told in no uncertain terms what would
happen to the levee system if Hurricane Katrina hits NO.  And like
a deer caught in the headlights, Bush chose to do NOTHING.  He did
not even bother asking any questions.  Too dumb to think of any.

On August 29, 2005, everybody in the whole fucking world found out
what happens when a massive hurricane hits New Orleans.

And still, George the Stupid didn't get it.

And for a week afterward, Bush chose to do NOTHING.  Oh, he did
fly over the city of NO in Air Force One, saying to his staff "Look
at all them funny-looking people sitting on rooftops, and how many of
them are waving at me!"  How much more insulting can a president be?

The glaring incompetence of the Bush administration never ceases
to amaze me.
