I am back from vacation and it doesn't look like I missed a lot.  I do 
want to share with you a couple of items from my vacation.  First, I met 
a wonderful young man on the flight back from London yesterday.  He was 
an airman who had just reenlisted for 6 years.  He was beaming and so 
proud to talk about his reenlistment.  His wife was at Fort Campbell and 
he was going to see her.  Even nicer was the folks next to him treating 
him so well and telling him how proud they were having folks like him 
protect them.  A far cry from the liberals of the 70's who spit on our 
servicemen, called them babykillers and still protest at military 
funerals today.  

I also had a chance to finish Zell Miller's book, A Deficit of Decency.  
I highly recommend it for reading.  I also believe that there are a lot 
of southern and conservative valued democrats who believe like Zell 
does.  This does not bode well for democrats.

Lastly, I had a chance to speak with a lot of very smart, powerful and 
connected people on the topic of Ethanol and energy issues.  The Ethanol 
conversation was very interesting.  Ethanol has the possibility of 
becoming another MTBE like issue that was poorly thought out, foisted on 
the public and almost caused an environmental disaster or this country.  
It was pushed through by the Greenies with junk science and cost this 
country billions of dollars to avoid ruining the water supply of this 
country.  

One point brought up was the potential for widespread deforestation by 
third world countries to create farmland to grow crops to be used for 
Ethanol production.  This is already happening for normal farmland 
creation.  Ethanaol may rapidly increase this and cause the Greenies a 
new problem.  Second, is that the average Ethanol plant will use about 
100 million gallons of water each year, even after reclamation.  Potable 
drinking water is already a potential issue for certain parts of the 
world already and will get worse.  Ethanol production will likely make 
this problem much worse in certain parts of the world.  Lastly, most 
forms of alternative fuels (i.e. ethanol, hydrogen etc..) require vast 
amounts of electricity to create.  From an energy output perspective 
they are far less efficient than oil, coal or any other naturally 
created fuel (i.e. mother nature is more efficient than man).  Thus 
there will need to be an increase in electricity production in the form 
of coal, nuclear or similar production to meet the demands.  

Anyway, I thought I'd share these things for pontification.
