We (Kemis and I) are having fun with computers. I decided to up grade to XP. No
one told me even the up-grade version would remove Office 2000.
I lost Word, Excel, Power Point... not the data mind you but just the programs.
I managed to loose most of the data trying to move it to where the new versions
of Word, Excel, and Power Point could find it.

I now have most of what I need working more or less and everything was back to
normal.

That was until Kemis came into the den and told me her tax prep software would
not run on her OLD Windows 98 machine.
I told her no problem as I had expected we would have to replace her computer
soon. This just moved the date up a bit.
This morning I set off to buy a new "box."  The first place I went was Office
Depot. I went to the box department and they had 3. NOT 3 models, 3 computers.
I ask the "computer expert" if they were going out of the box business. He said
no, the reason they had only 3 computers was because they were clearing
inventory and not selling any new boxes until Vista was released. This was the
first time I had even heard of Vista.

I asked what if you don't want Vista and just want a new XP box.
Can't get one here I was told. Come back Jan 30, and get a Vista.

I got the same story at Office Max, Circuit City, H H Gregg, and Sam’s Club.
I had planed to spend 800-1000 bucks to buy my bride a new computer and
couldn’t find a computer to buy.
I know she has several of her regular tax clients taxes to do but,  she has no
choice  but to  wait until at least Feb 1 to get a Box that will run her tax
programs. Should be like some one going cold turkey until then.

Now I need to find out if Vista will wipe all of the early versions of
Microsoft (and several non-Microsoft) programs on her old 98 box and see if I
can find new versions of the ones that will not work with Vista.
