JM> I see you guys talking about Linux, What about it makes it better than
 JM> MS XP or 2000?

Linux doesn't have as much overhead as Windows has. Much of that overhead in
Windows is there to make the computing experience easier on the user.

Linux has a bit of a learning curve, but once you know what you are doing, you
can do anything with it that you can with Windows.

There are several new distributions of Linux that are almost as easy for the
casual computer user as M$ Windows. *Almost.*

The top distro in that category is Ubuntu Linux. It has an easy graphical
installer and a familiar look and feel for most M$ users.

JM> Isn't Linux more for people that know a lot about how computer work amd
JM> how to program them, as opposed to those of us that just use them?

Many distributions are not aimed at the average user and should be avoided if
you are just interested in taking a look. Distros like Ubuntu, Knoppix, Gentoo,
Linspire, etc. are more mainstream and don't have as steep a learning curve as,
for example, Slackware (although Slack is getting easier to install and use
with each new release).

I'd suggest for you to just stick with M$ Windows unless you want to play
around with Linux a bit. Ubuntu, Knoppix, and several others have a "Live CD"
that allows you to boot from the CD and play around with it without wiping out
what you have on your hard drive.

jealousy of some among us faithful likenesses of the human

sufficient virtue among men for self-government; and that
nothing less than the chains of despotism can restrain them
from destroying and devouring one another."
