Brady Campaign: Cho Seung-Hui Was A Prohibited Purchaser Under
Existing Federal Law

Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence President Paul Helmke issued
a statement, dated 4/19/2007 -

"We believe that based on existing Federal law, Cho Seung-Hui should
not have passed his Brady background checks and should not have been
allowed to purchase firearms.

"This organization has a long history of expertise on the Brady Law
and on the regulations administering the related Federal laws that
determine which individuals are prohibited purchasers.  We believe
there is clear evidence that since a Virginia judicial officer found
that Cho Seung-Hui presented `an imminent dnger to himself as a result
of mental illness' that he fell within the category of `adjudicated
as a mental incompetent' used in the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968,
and therefore should have failed his background checks.

"This event appears to have been preventable under the Brady law."

JH>No, he wasn't, else he wouldn't have been released.

Not all mental patients are locked up forever.  In fact, most nuts
are released into society after a period of time.  But those who have
been deemed a danger to others and/or to themselves are prohibited
purchasers of guns under existing federal law.

BTW, mental patients incarcerated in mental institutions do not have
access to guns of any kind, for obvious reasons.

Barack Obama, like most Americans, does not want crazy people
to be able to purchase guns.  Do you have a problem with that?

Under existing federal law, crazy people are prohibited from purchasing
guns.  That is something that is *good* about America.  And I do not
apologize for being strongly in favor of crazy people being prohibited
from purchasing guns.

What is *wrong* about America is the fact that your scumbag of
a president chooses to allow crazy people to be able to continue
purchasing guns, by virtue of underfunding what is needed to update
the databases to keep such crazy people from purchasing guns.

BTW, Cho bought the ammo he used in the VT massacre on eBay.
