I think that's an incorrect statement depending on whether one considers the
Arabian peninsula as part of Africa, the future Arabs were at least as advanced
as their contemporaries in Europe at that time. Wasn't it them who gave us the
concept of 0? I've also read that many of the ancient texts that we have today
were saved by them from destruction.
