That's a good question, as it illustrates just how much you don't know about
military operations, and why you are not qualified to render an opinion on what
happened in that mosque.

In an urban warfare situation, going from house to house, the main force
advances as soon as each house stops resisting in order to keep pressure on the
enemy.  Followup teams come along behind to catch up stragglers, holdouts, and
take care of any snipers who hid and waited till they were behind the lines. 
Basically, to cover the rear of the main force as it advances.  That's what the
squad in the mosque was doing - cleanup, or mop up, to secure an area the main
force had knocked out earlier.
