That whole deal really pissed me off. I think this guy was some kind of plant.
The whole deal with the Humvee armor is bogus. We're in a new kind of warfare
for US troops. Mistakes are made, and to be expected as we ramp up on the
learning curve, and adapt to enemy tactics.

Sure, some of our guys have been hurt or killed because the armor in the Humvee
isn't holding up against roadside bombs - it was never designed for that type
of situation for christ's sake! Espeically when the bomb is made from three
155mm artillery rounds full of HE. That situation was addressed several months
ago and measures were taken to reinforce the armor and that required a major
design change, which took some time to accomplish.

As it is, we went from making 1 such vehicle a month, to 450 in just a few
weeks. You can't do it any faster. In the mean time, you make do with what
you have, and be more careful. If people think this is the first time we've
dealt with such a problem, they don't know Jack. Our early tanks in WWII were
famous for catching fire when hit by German panzers. They called them
"Ronson's" after the old Ronson cigarette lighter - they'd burn at the flip of
a finger! We sure as hell didn't stop the war until the M3 came along.

BF>> His answer was:" You go to war with the army you have

BF>> the rest of the world?

FS> It tells the world that we do what we *must* do and do the best

FS> perfect time to go to war. In this case the belief was that
FS> Saddam posed a real threat and we *had* to neutralize him. It

FS> *ironically* he *tried* to give the impression he was immediately

BF>> Where are all the Rambo:s?

What a f*cking idiot!

 FS> I don't know ... do you?

BF>> 8 of them are facing a court martial for not obeying order since
 BF>> their vehicle wan't
BF>> safe enough to travel in.

FS> You leave out the most significant feature of that namely that
FS> when they refused another eight took identical equipment and did
FS> what was ordered with no problems whatsoever. Furthermore what
FS> military can stand if its soldiers refuse to obey orders?

BF>> 5 are sueing USA for not letting them go home after fulfilment of
 BF>> their contract.

FS> And their chances are considered *zero*! I can understand their
FS> frustration as *I*, too, would be frustrated to be in Iraq longer
FS> than originally intended. However I was frustrated being in the
FS> Army during WWII, but just "sucked it up" as they say. Our
FS> modern generation doesn't seem to be willing to sacrifice for a
 FS> worthy goal.

When my dad joined up in WWII, he asked how long they thought it would be
before he was able to come home. They told him "when its over, kid." Then,
when it was over in Europe, he got shipped home by Liberty ship, only to be put
on a troop train going to San Francisco. There, they were put on another
Liberty ship and sent toward Japan. If not for the atom bomb on Hiroshia, he
would've been in the first wave to assault the beach in the Japanese Home
Islands. As it was, his unit ended up doing 14 months of occupation duty
instead. I've still got the katana sword he brought back as a souvenir, as
well as the Jap meatball flag he liberated.

BF>> But I guess that someone of you will say that this is also
 BF>> anti-American propaganda

FS> It is when you don't tell the *whole* story ...

BF>> and have never happend since it was only on TV and said by a
BF>> corrupt Minister that doesn't know a thing about it and the fact
 BF>> that I just can't prove it.......and hey,

FS> Huh? What are you talking about. What you've mentioned was
FS> widely broadcast on the Fox News Channel.

BF>> Rumsfelt wasn't even in Kuwait. That was an illution.

 FS> Huh?

BF>> And now there are 1,000 dead American soldiers in combat in Iraq
BF>> and if we should put it all togheter, including accidents and suecide the

 BF>> official figure is 1,275.
 BF>> Wounded are 9,765.
BF>> The number of dead Iraqi various but is well over 14,000 and 5,000
BF>> soldiers. May I ask if someone of you have lost anyone in Iraq?

 FS> I don't even *know* anyone over there ...

BF>> If you have, do you still think it's worth it?

FS> We must defend ourselves. George W. Bush is doing the proper
FS> thing. Just as we defended ourselves successfully against the
FS> Germans and Japs during WWII.

Screw him, Frank. This guy has no idea what's going on, and no historical
perspective. We don't owe him or any of the rest of them an explanation about
anything.

John
