Ärende: SOCIAL SECURITY
=======================
On 01-15-05, VERN HUMPHREY said to TIM RICHARDSON:

TR>JB>I see. So let's propose abolishing the Federal Employees retirement
TR>JB>system which covers over 4 million federal workers and see how they lik
TR>JB>it. Force them all back to Social Security. I absolutely want the
TR>JB>democrats to propose this.

TR>I got a better idea:

TR>Lets abolish Social Security, take all the money workers have put into it
TR>till now, and transfer it into the same retirement insurance the Federal
TR>Employees Retirement System is paid into.

TR>That way, Social Security comes to an end, and ordinary people who are
TR>working are actually going to get a decent retirement, just like Federal
TR>Workers do.

TR>That will solve all the problems. Government Workers don't get forced to p
TR>into a losing system which jeopardizes their retirement, and ordinary work
TR>have a `real' retirement to look forward to.

VH>The problem is, how do we keep paying Social Security to all the people
VH>who are drawing it now?

Actually, thats the easy part.

Set a cut-off date at which its obvious a worker could not pay into the new
system long enough to benefit greatly, and start workers who went into the
work force `after' that cut-off date in the new system.

Cut off foreign aid giveaways to countries that do nothing but turn on us
when the chips are down anyway, or embroil us in running international
problems, and use that money to straighten out the *many* problems America
has.

Like America's retirement system for people who work all their adult lives
and expect to have a financially sound retirement check at the time they
retire.

Like America's education system, beginning with the payscales of teachers who
don't really `teach', administrators who make outrageous salaries for what
they do, and curriculum that needs to be restored to `truth', and not
continue toward historical revision. Or lowering the scholastic bar instead
of demanding high scholastic standards, and letting too many young people
`fall through the cracks'.

Like the `homeless' problem. This is supposedly the greatest, richest country
in the world. There is no excuse for thousands and thousands of people living
under freeway bridges, wandering the streets, being bound daily to the number
of aluminum cans they can collect to turn into a recycling center for
sandwich and cigarette money. There is no excuse for people having to stand
with cardboard signs at freeway entrances, begging for food or jobs, in
America.

That is an indictment of our very social system, and a loud accusation of
State Legislatures and the U.S. Congress.

Both State Legislatures and the U.S. Congress can find scads of funds to piss
away on `in-depth studies' of some obscure situation or area, or tons of
money to piss away on systems or equipment that is un-needed, but cannot even
find the time to address the homeless problem in America.

Like the jobs and companies that are slowly leaving America, leaving many
Americans jobless. How many homeless are people who `had' good-paying jobs
and contributed to the general economy, who's jobs went overseas, or across
the Northern or Southern border, and are now without a home?

Like securing America's own borders. Night after night thousands of people
pour across this Southern border, infuse themselves into the State, crowd
into jobs that Americans could use, and nothing gets done. We have several
military forts in California, with Troops just sitting there polishing their
boots and equipment. We need them on the borders with their expertise and
technology, stemming the flow of these illegals.

But most of all, we need some people in the U.S. Congress who aren't
constantly thinking up reasons `you can't do things that way', and spend more
time thinking up ways we can save funds, and solve the `many' problems the
*old* Congress cannot seem to address with any solutions.
