Hello Dan!

01 Jun 09 21:08, you wrote to me:

RC>> So if you worked from home, your furniture being your computer
RC>> desk, a writing desk and a chair, how would you be breaking the
RC>> laws if your comings and goings only entail you running the same
RC>> errands you do now? (Grocery store, going out to eat, seeing a
 RC>> movie, visiting friends??)

DC> Ross, get real. I'm talkimg about excess truck deliveries, noise,
 DC> visits and the like.

I was *not* talking about that, I was talking about those whom work from home
for someone else, using such things as a computer and telephone. You are the
one whom ignored this and took it to an extreme.

RC>> Painting a car is not the only aspect of fixing ones car or
 RC>> restoring one.

DC> And, having your car torn apart is one of those things. That is
DC> illegal ' in most residential areas. It can be so even in the
 DC> driveway.

Which is why many do so in the backyard, maybe behind a fenced backyard or in a
garage. I cannot believe you ever worked in the DIY auto parts business.

RC>> I am not the one running out in left field with this extreme, you
RC>> are and with a radical example. I presented a simple example and
RC>> I did not include the word urethane, you introduced that.

DC> It's called "an example", Ross. Even the more standard acrylic paints
DC> carry high levels of VOCs which are illegal to emit into the
DC> atmosphere. And, try and find an enamel car paint. That has been off
DC> the market \for probably 20 yrs now.

What I presented was examples, you ran them up to extremes.

Someone restoring a 57 Chevy, you turned into spraying urethane.

Someone telecommuting, you turned them into a receiving dock.

DC>> Has it occurred to you that I wasn't talking about simply making
 DC>> phone calls?

RC>> Telecommuting isnt just about being on the phone or making phone
RC>> calls, it is as generic as Xerox or Aspirin. A good bit of
RC>> telecommuting involves using the computer over an internet
RC>> connection, among other things. However I was the one whom was
 RC>> talking about telecommuting.

DC> So what? I gave you examples as to why certain business operations
DC> would be illegal to run out of home. It's as simple. The fact is
DC> that not all home business are legal.

I am not interested in your examples, I presented benign examples and you
decided to twist them into malignant ones.

RC>> Home Businesses are very legal, you are just wanting to take
RC>> everything to the severe extreme.

DC> Wrong again. Ross. I gave you plenty of examples to demonstrate that
DC> not all all home business are legal, which is the point.

Businesses that somehow meet your litmus test might be, I wasnt talking about
those. I never remotely mentioned those that met your so called examples.

RC>> Ever hear the term SOHO..

 RC>> Its a term used to define (S)mall (O)ffice (H)ome (O)ffice.

DC> Your under the very mistaken impression that you happen to knowledge
 DC> unavailable to others.

You sir are under the impression that your knowledge trumps my own, I have been
assisting these people for over a decade now.

Many of my customers work from home, some for themselves, most others for
someone else.

DC>> Actually, they are. They are using their house as office space
DC>> that would otherwise have to be in some commercial building.

 RC>> LOL, not illegal.

DC> Where did I state that was illegal? I simply stated that what they
DC> are doing is substituting their home for office space that would
DC> normally . I simply stated that in working out of their home, they
DC> are running a busines, albeit not their own.

So you see it as wrong for someone to set aside a room inside their own house
to work out of, in this example, for someone else?

Someone who telecommutes:

Isnt contributing to traffic congestion or green house gas emissions from their
cars to the degree the rest of us do.

I will stipulate that someone receiving "Freight" on a daily basis, would be
crossing the line.

RC>> By your logic, our schools shouldnt send children home with
RC>> homework because their parents homes arent schools. I guess all
RC>> those that are home schooling their kids are breaking the law,
RC>> the home is not a school, not zoned for it.

DC> You really off of the deep end.

If I am it is only because you led the way and dragged me with you.

DC> Now, I suggest we both stop thes asides that you like ti throw out. I
DC> have no problems with retorting them. But, they clog the Echo with
 DC> unnecessary chaff.

Maybe because of your dishonest debating tactics?

RC>> Ah ran out of arguments did ya?

DC> I already provided more than enough exceptions to demonstrate that not
DC> all home businesses are legal.

Your examples are in the the range I was referring to.

To have you describe it, people would no longer be able to do Avon, Tupperware,
Amway much less telecommute.

DC> You want another one? Prostitution is not legal.

and was I talking about that??

RC>> Telecommuting is not just the telephone.

DC> Ross, give it a rest. I've got no need to run the gamut of each and
DC> every variation just to suit your nitpicking.

I wasnt nitpicking, you were.

RC>> If we could get the liberal whiny ass tree huggers to pipe down,
RC>> maybe we could build more nuke plants and windmill farms.

DC> That will still not solve the problem of "cheap coal" among other
DC> toxic wastes from other industries that are dumped into the air
 DC> and streams.

and what do you suggest replace coal, I tossed out my suggestion, now it is
your turn?
