 When I got out of Basic there was no travel time alloted, we
 were put on a bus and shipped off to Keesler. We left very early
 in the AM and arrived either that night or the next day early
 in the AM. Don't recall for sure, it was 40 years ago. I believe
 it was Jan 2 when we left.

 I do remember stopping for dinner, fried chicken. In New
 Orleans. And I do not recall if we had our specific school
 assignments before that. I do recall we were all out there in
 the dark, being assigned to our busses. Also the air police
 school was at lackland, and the ones assigned to that school
 were there with us. I remember that because some of the recent
 grads from that school were there, shipping out, and they were
 hassling the new guys with things like, "You'll be sorry". Etc.

 We got into Keesler, probably got fed, assigned to a barracks.
 Next day we processed in, took a math test, and if you didn't
 pass you got assigned to Pats-math. Personell Awaiting Tech
 School. Outside of that we were supposed to get a couple weeks
 KP while awaiting school assignment, but enlistments were down
 cause I enlisted just before the holidays, so we went straight
 to school the next week. Very little delay. I believe I was in
 the early morning class, as Bob described, cause I remember
 formation in the dark before class.

 Terminal leave? I just got paid accrued leave time. Hell...
 never even thought of terminal leave. Imagine not working for
 the last 30 or more days. My day before discharge was as
 Squadron NCO. On top of that we had an ORI the day I got
 discharged. I called in the people I was supposed to, they
 arrived, and I walked off to breakfast and processing out.

 So, I can see how Ross' story might be true.
