Probably similar to Sirius or XM receivers.  AFRTS has a web site,
you might check there for specifics.

I remember decades ago on Okinawa listening to the AFRTS live
broadcast of the Indy 500 (piped from shortwave).  It was about 3 am and
that was the only time us single folks could do laundry at the base laundromat.
Anyhow, I heard the end of the race at around 5 am.  Five hours later the AFRTS
station rebroadcast the race and while it was on one fellow in the day room
wanted to bet on the race.  I told him that the race was over and that I knew
who
won but he insisted that he wanted to bet, so I told him I'd bet him $10,000
that
<whoever the winner was, I've forgotten> would win the race.  He wouldn't
take it (darn, that was the closest to a sure thing I've ever had, in fact it
*was*
a sure thing <g>).  Half a dozen other guys there were also trying to tell him
he
was listening to a tape delayed broadcast.


Ah, tape delays.  One year Bob Hope brought his Christmas show to Okinawa and I
got to go ('they' limited the number of people who could - and ended up with
only
about half the stadium filled instead of a full house, which they easily
could've gotten).
AFRTS lugged their big studio TV cameras and tape machines down to the baseball
field, put one camera on the pitcher's mound and the other on third base dugout
(dunno
where they put the tape machines).  Anyhow, they taped the show, which included
a
female singing group known as 'The Golddiggers.'  That evening I watched the
broadcast
(and taped the audio, which I still have around here someplace), probably the
funniest thing
I remember had nothing to do with the show's script; the TV director switched
cameras
to the one on the third base dugout and the cameraman had zoomed in to a very
closeup
of the Golddigger's posteriors (they were in a line facing directly away from
the camera
at the time) almost as soon as the very closeup image of that very tight, very
short dress
appeared on screen the camera zoomed back to a much wider angle.  Obviously the

director didn't have those little monitor screens that show what each camera is
looking
at...
