 At the last hamfest I went to I bought a copy of the 1947 Allied
 Radio Data Handbook. That same book, much expanded, is
 published as the Radio Shack Electronic Data Handbook.

 The 1947 one does not have any television or computer data, but
 the radio data is exactly the same as the current book. Not even
 rewritten, but printed up as it was 60 years ago.

 I picked up some copies of some old Audel's technology books.
 Around 1930. Much of it is different, but how much is the same
 surprises me. I read through the boiler information. It is much
 the same as modern boilers.

 We have replaced most of our indicator lights with computer
 displays. They are actually PC compatible computers, running
 DOS. I see no advantage, and a lot of disadvantages, to the new
 displays. The indicator lights told me as much real info, and
 these displays are exceedingly more expensive to replace.

 Our inspection cameras were running on a custom component system
 that was very limited in what it did, but did it very fast and
 effectively. That got thrown out and a new system put it. This
 one is a dual pentium system running a camera system, and doing
 it very badly. It is very static sensitive, which ain't good
 with metal products going down a plastic conveyor, at high
 speed.

 Nope, a lot of what they are putting in these days works less
 well than what they replaced. Some of our machines ran 30 years,
 and I replaced a sensor maybe every other year. These new
 machines I've alread replaced more sensors the first year than
 in the 30 years we had the old ones.

 Used to be engineers speced and designed and managed everything.
 These days the bean counters are running the world.
