It's also sort of like the situations in the middle east where a woman needs a
doctor.  But, only her husband can see her naked.  On top of that, women aren't
allowed to be doctors, so... ummm, that's not going to work too well.  It just
amazes me that the people who support this kind of idiocy don't see that it's
exactly the type of crap that leads to the radicalism other countries are
experiencing.

Yeah, abortions have been happening for thousands of years, and no "law" is
going to stop it.  They'll simply get them done illegally, and MORE people will
die (in addition to the "babies" Tim and friends are so concerned about),
because there won't be any oversight, no standards, nothing.

It's basically the same logic that says if we don't teach kids about sex, they
won't have it.  Ostrichism!  Put your head in the sand, and the issues don't
exist, then you can feel good that you "saved lives".

Yeah.  That's another part of the world where women tend to be marginalized.
It's so sad to think of those poor girls who are perfectly healthy, but are
raped because of the stupid belief that virgins can magically cure AIDS.
Ignorance helps no one.

Well, first it was a disease affecting only homosexuals, of course.  Then when
it was seen in the general population, they try to demonize it in other ways.
You only get it because you're "bad", much like any disease that can be
transmitted via drugs or sexually.

They approach pregnancy in the same way, where it's the punishment/consequences
of "bad" actions.  Either that, or you were too stupid to avoid it and
therefore, are rightly deserving of becoming a parent.  I don't think people
who are sick should be denied treatment, regardless of how they got sick, any
more than I think a woman who is pregnant loses some of her rights, regardless
of how she got pregnant.

The entire argument, though, hinges on whether or not potential life is, in
fact, a life.  If that's true, every cell within the human body is a potential
life, which includes cancer cells, stem cells, etc.  Scratching your nose would
be mass murder, and don't even begin to talk about removing tissues from your
body.

Even so, and I do not agree with this conclusion, if one concludes that life
begins at conception, what does that mean for the mother?  Is her
responsibility to the unborn so great, that her entire life must be put on hold
so as to ensure she doesn't do SOMETHING that ends in miscarriage?  If she eats
at a restaurant, gets food poisoning or something, and the vomiting somehow
causes her to miscarriage, is she guilty of manslaughter?  If she's in a car
and has an accident, also resulting in a miscarriage, is that manslaughter too?
If she does something deliberately knowing it MIGHT harm her fetus, is that
assault, and murder if it results in its death?

It really does relegate women to nothing more than baby factories.  People have
been fighting for years to remove this type of thinking, yet it persists by
those who are more concerned with others' actions than they are with their own.
There are a lot of misogynists who would say feminists no longer have a
purpose, but that is far, far from the truth.
