LIstened to him a couple of times while tuning through the AM band wasteland
which is even worse now thanks to iboc. Generalization and oversimplification
is this dude's stock in trade, but he gets lots of yuks from the less well
educated of the blue collar types who see their  economic power dwindling.

AS one who lived there before the storm, and one who stayed to assist those in
need I saw a different reality than MR. BOrtz. First, I was working with a
hospital which serves the uninsured.  that's right folks, the guy who would
have fixed the roof for the Bortz listener for cheap; the maitre de where the
listener would have enjoyed a fine meal; the bass player who entertained him.
THat listener would have cried loud and long if made to pay the price for a
roofer that provided health insurance and benefits to his employees, including
himself.

I knew a lot of people that fit the description he gives, but I see them in
many American cities.  I also knew a lot of working poor. HEck, I stood at that
airport when they evacuated the hospital with a lawyer from a big firm in the
central business district.  SAid lawyer didn't own an automobile to leave in
and couldn't book a flight out before the storm.
I've also read about airlines and Amtrack getting rolling stock out of there
empty sans passengers before the waters rose.

So why did aforementioned lawyer not own a car?  Car insurance rates are high
in New ORleans, or were before the storm when we lived there.  Parking where he
worked exorbitant.  IF he and his lady went out for a night's dinner and
entertainment they took a taxi, ro SO when the time comes to get the heck outa
dodge you've got no way outa dodge.

I'd dare MR. Bortz to stand around down on CAnal street and say those things.
