 I was thinking about the absoluted demand for a warrant. After
 all, if it was someone close to you who had been murdered, you
 would probably want it solved as quickly as possible. The time
 they spend getting a warrant to search your home would be time
 they aren't spending looking for someone else. Those close to
 the victim are always the first suspects, but they don't go
 searching without some reason to think you may have something to
 hide.

 You know a census is not just to count the number of people
 living here, but to get an idea of what the demographics are.

 And there are reasons to know that. From the medical standpoint,
 knowing there are a lot of black people in some area will tell
 them they may need more sicle cell treatment facilities there.
 Knowing there are more Jews suggests more chances of Tays Sachs.

 If they count 6 hispanic families in a town, and each has 4
 members, yet there are 1000 copies of a Spanish language
 newspaper delivered there, someone may suspect there are Spanish
 speaking people there who have reason to want to avoid being
 counted.

 Even knowing the number of German and Irish and Greek etc
 ancestry gives historical information. Did you know German is
 the largest ethnic group in this country?

 Knowing the educational level of the residents gives an idea how
 well the school systems are working.

 There are a lot of things governments need to know to function
 well, and some of them would probably surprise all of us.

 Next time, look at the form and ask yourself, is there anyway
 this information would contribute to better governing of this
 country? Or would contribute to the private sector functioning
 better? They do use the info also.
