Ärende: Military Service BS again
=================================
On 07-08-08, JOHNJWILSON said to BOB KLAHN:

-> RC>>> Clarks last distinguishment was being fired by Then
->  RC>>> President Bill Clinton.

-> BK>> You keep saying that, but you fail to point out it was in
-> BK>> defference to the top military commanders. The military command
-> BK>> replaced Clark in his command with the former Vice Chief of
-> BK>> Staff, and Clark served out his time and then retired.

-> RC> I havent been able to see the official story.

-> RC> A watered down version says it was just normal command
->  RC> rotation.

-> I've seen several versions. The ones that say "normal rotation"
-> are slanted to benefit the higher command.

-> RC> But I seem to recall Clinton removed him because Clark
-> RC> wanted to take the Bosnia thing out of the air and move it
-> RC> into ground ops. More or less, differing philosophies on
-> RC> how to proceed from his CnC.

-> Bosnia was a ground op. I believe you are referring to Kosovo.
-> He set up a ground invasion, but that was planned as a threat to
-> get the Serbs to give it up. It worked.

-> The actual war was over and the US forces were on the ground in
-> Kosovo, among Nato peacekeepers, by July of 1999. Clark retired
->  in May of 2000.

-> I find the opposition from within the higher command of the
-> military as a believable explanation for his retirement.

JJ>Yes, yes, but you have to keep in mind his terrible, unforgivable totally
JJ>unacceptable weirdness: He is a (gasp!) Democrat. What further information

Wesley Clark being himself:

"I'm very glad we have a great team in
office....Powell....Rumsfeld....Cheney....Rice....People I know very well.
Our president George W. Bush. We need them there." ....Wesley Clark at a
5/11/01 dinner speech in Arkansas

"We will always be grateful to George Bush for that great leadership and
statesmanship." ......Wesley Clark 5/11/01

"President Bush and Tony Blair should be proud of their resolve in the face
of so much doubt." ........Wesley Clark 4/10/03 Times of London

"General Clark said today that he would have supported the Congressional
Resolution to invade Iraq." ..........9/19/03 New York Times

"I would have been a Republican if Karl Rove had returned my phone calls."
......Wesley Clark to two Republicans at a conference in Switzerland

You hear very little about the fact that retired General wesley Clark helped
an Arkansas information company win a contract to assist in developement of
an airline screening system, one of the largest surveilance programs ever
devised by the government.

Beginning just after the 9/11 attack, Clark sought out dozens of government
and industry officials on behalf of Acxiom Corporation, a data powerhouse
that maintains names, addresses, and a wide array of personal information
about nearly every adult in the United States and its Territories.

Clark joined Acxiom's board of directors in December 2001. And in 2002 he
earned in excess of $300,000, and recieved about $150,000 in 2003, plus
potential commissions. He owned several thousand shares of Acxiom stock worth
more than $67,000.

Clark's role at Acxiom put him right near the very center of the national
debate over expanded government authority to use and store vast amounts of
personal data on the citizenry of this country (guess which side `Clark' came
down on!).

In 1994, Clark (then a three star general) met in Banja Luka, a town in
Bosnia/Herzegovina, with a serb general named Ratko Mladic, traded hats with
him and the two of them mugged for the cameras.

An official of the U.S. State Department at the time, likened it to cavorting
with Hermann Goering!

Mladic was indicted for war crimes and was a fugitive with a $5 million
dollar price on his head not long afterward.

Great guy, Wesley Clark.
