EC> The relevant "portion" was the quote from the Navy report.
EC> Your "not necessarily so" was a hypothetical generality

You are lucky, you can plead ignorance on this subject. So, I
will have to educate you so you can no longer plead ignorance.

EC> that had nothing to do with the specific instance, and that

It was quite relevant to the specific instance. You continual
deletion of the relevant parts is evidence you know you are
 wrong.

As you can see the "not necessarily so" referred to the fact
that the air speed did not have to be reduced in the turn for
the lift to be reduced. Something you don't seem to understand.

 **************************************************************************

EC> detailed stories seem to indicate that the turn rubbed off

Not necessarily so. A plane that is turning needs more speed to
fly, so it will stall at a speed that will allow flight when it
 is straight and level.

 **************************************************************************

EC> would have drawn a report concluding that he "failed to
EC> increase" as opposed to "failed to maintain." If you don't

Again, something you don't understand. The report did not say he
did not maintain his airspeed, it said he failed to maintain
an air speed above the stall speed. An airplane in a turn
requires more airspeed to fly than one flying straight and
level. So the stall speed varies according to conditions, and it
is the pilot's responsibility to maintain sufficient air speed
under those varying conditions. Now you know. That answers the
 one above the stripes also.

EC> know the difference between "increase" and "maintain," just

What you didn't know was that "maintaining" may also require
"increasing". To "maintain" airspeed above stall speed you have
to "increase" airspeed in a turn above that in level flight.

EC> say so. But experience would say that you really just
EC> don't CARE about the difference or didn't NOTICE the
EC> difference, since you have lapsed into your robotic-denial
 EC> mode.

The reality is, you did not know the difference and I did. I
knew airspeed in a turn has to be higher than airspeed in level
flight to keep flying. You obviously didn't. Now you do. So now
 you can't plead ignorance.

If you doubt it, call any flight school, or ask any experienced
pilot. Or do the math. It's simple vector math. Gravity down,
lift up, bank in a turn with a vector perpindicular from the ground
and perpendicular to the wings. Lift has to match gravity,
relative to the ground, for the plane to remain in flight. If
lift is at an angle to the ground, the vectors have to give a
result with lift relative to the ground that still matches
gravity. Which means more total lift, but at an angle. Which
 means more airspeed.

 Got it?

BTW, that lift not perpindicular to the ground, at the angle, is
what pulls the plane through the turn.
